UV-Vis/NIR spectroscopy

SyMO-Chem has access to a Perkin Elmer UV/Vis spectrophotometer Lambda 2B and a Perkin Elmer UV/Vis/NIR spectrophotometer 900.

ATR-FTIR spectroscopy

Infrared resonance measurements are performed in the attenuated total reflectance mode, hence the sample, either a pure solid or liquid, is measured on a crystal without need for a sample preparation.

Polarimetry, Circular Dichroism-spectroscopy (CD) and Optical Rotation Dispersion-spectroscopy (ORD)

To analyse optically active compounds a JASCO DIP 370 polarimeter and a JASCO J-815 spectrometer are used. With polarimetry, the specific optical rotation of a compound (in solution or pure) is determined at 589 nm. CD-spectroscopy measures the difference in absorption between the left- and right-handed light of a chiral compound. It is also possible to perform ORD spectroscopy, where the optical rotation is studied as a function of the wavelength.
